suggestion for new orders

one thing i thought about, the "dwarves can go" orders could be more effective if used with zones. this would be a great help when trying to manage your fortress during those horrible sieges and ambushes, just whip out a "restricted area for civilians" in the right place and only your military will have access to the battlefield. the present option, to go into
  • rders and toggling who can go outside can really be a bitch, especially when your woodcutters, carpenters and crafters run into the kobold cave because it's the nearest indoor option

Wait: you leave the cave open? When I see an embark announcement of a cave, first thing I do is set someone to build a wall over it til I'm ready to deal with the denizens. Then, when the military is ready, I head in and collect my masterwork iron statues and bones, er I mean slaughter the inhabitants, at my own leisure, usually by digging in from the side.

an on off toggleable civilain restriction zone would be handy as buggers. as would auto forbidding all items dropped by anything labeled as an invader in the units screen.

That still leaves dwarven soldiers open.  Make it so that it forbids the items of creatures who were killed violently.  That way, it covers the items of goblins soldiers, dwarf soldiers, and random folk that wander into some nasty and shredding area.

If you want your trap corridor cleaned up, just reclaim the dropped items.  It'll save dwarves from premature cleaning, and thus premature death.
