should be an available building for above ground.
They seem like something dwarves might build.

I've built a couple. But without anything fun to place at the top they're not as interesting. I did place my butchery workshop atop a twelve story ziggurat once, but you can't ritually butcher capture goblins, which took some of the fun out of it.

Still, I hope Armok appreciated the kitten sacrifices.  :)

Already in.  As are monoliths, colossi, pyramids, huge temples, hanging gardens, and so on and so forth.  With rewalling, if you can think it up, you can build it.

Dude, a building for your ballista ammo is not a missile silo.

If you keep a fortress running for 1,000 years your dwarves get icbms. srsly.
Anyway, I'd like to see some kind of construction template for stuff like
ziggurats, if only to save time.  Attempting to build a 10-storey building for all of your workshops is fun and all, but your dwarves might have a few problems. Like death.  Also; being able to butcher goblins would rock. Goblin-bone totems and swords studded with troll bones for extra fear-impact? Yesplz.

I'm putting a graveyard up there, so my dwarves can practice sky burial.

Ok, hows this. Would it be feasible or even practical or even cheating to have a menu of pre generated builds you have designed (ones that served no skill purpose). Say a 4 story 6x5 stone water tower, with 27 unit water capacity with all the holes necessary for pumps. An appropriate dwarf makes the shell building. Then all you have to do is add the equipment and water source. Of course the plans would have to include side stairs allowing the dwarf proper access throughout the whole construction.
The main problem I see is that this should work if its being mined out but you cant have a whole building queued up using construction since most of it is in midair.

If the construction plans aren't an option, how about walls that have the old channel's lengthen and widen options? Building about 50 walls just to channel a bit of water is unnecessary hassle.

Agreed! Same with floors and whatnot. Or, which I would prefer, make construction designations like you do dig designations.

You can make goblins (or any other race/animal) butcherable by editting the raws. They are in data section.
