You're mistaking the form of his comment for the content... Don't make people use boring language :(

I think some means of dealing with stone should be present, and this would be a good way to fit it in without it being too gamey. You'd mostly use this when establishing your fort early on to maximize space, and use it sparingly later on as you keep stone in small stockpiles while the excess is out of sight and out of mind in mining tunnels.

The only problem I can see is whether or not it'd give mining skill; if it did, it'd give you twice the potential mining profit from a given quantity of stone.

Ultimately it's up to Toady, but I do like the prospect of immigrants being put through hard labor to keep them occupied, and stonebreaking sounds like an excellent choice.

What's the difference between making it go away and turning it into toys?

The amount of items you need to sift through...
Other than that, no real difference as trading items are nearly infinite anyway.

I'm not sure the "stones filling stockpiles" bug still exists, actually.  I'm pretty sure I've seen dwarves fill food stockpiles properly even when they're already full of unwanted stones.  So, profit -- try just hiding the stones and placing a stockpile, and tell us if it works?

Depends on the item. If you're trying to store wood, metal ore, or furniture there, the stones will indeed block it.

However if the items are stored in bins/barrels, then the stones will not block it.

Good to have some confirmation on that.  We were just speculating in a bug report that it might depend on whether the items are in a bin/barrel or not.  I'm crossposting your quote there now.
