Auto dump stone

Simple idea. Any stone generated is designated to be Dumped automatically, this could be set either as an init option or as a Orders screen option. Might want a check to see if there is a valid dump site, but I don't see that it's really necessary.

I agree, I'd really like to see Designate-menu dumping designation.

Having to go into init to toggle stone dumping on and off would be too much hassle, and a universal solution isn't really necessary. It'd only take a few keystrokes to dump a huge swathe of stone, if the designate menu were so upgraded.

It'd also be nice if in the stock screen, when you wanted to Melt or Dump an item, it'd automatically re-claim it. That'd be helpful for ammunition that's laying around, or for invader equipment. Right now it can be done by Viewing the item and clicking to claim it, but that's a bit complicated to do when there's tons of items in a row you've got to dump and/or melt.

You can reclaim them from the stock menu too, can't you?  Easier than scouring the battlefield for each bolt.

You can but it's a little bit complicated, you have View them from the stock screen, then Claim, because the regular Stock screen has no Claim button. It's kind of a weird omission, you'd really expect it to be there alongside Zoom, View, Melt, and Dump, but it isn't.

It becomes a multi-step process for every item you wish to claim then either melt or dump. What I'm suggesting is not only perhaps the Claim key working from the regular Stock screen, but also, if you click to Dump or Melt an item it would automatically be re-claimed so that your dwarves will interact with it.

I know a lot of people are pushing for the designate, but let me quickly explain the benefits of this.
First, it eliminates having to go back and designate anything, it's done for you at dig time and thus eliminates a step.

Second, it prevents accidentally designating things to be dunped that you didn't want dumped. so, if a dwarf decides to carry something of value into a mining area on his way from point A to point B then go get a drink (thus dropping the item) it doesn't get designated to be dumped. An example would be the creation of bedrooms. This way, you could place the beds without stopping to designate the stone first. If you had to designate the stone and forgot, selecting the area would also designate the beds to be dumped.

Finally, in a well run fort, especially early on (with unskilled miners) and late in the game, all stone can be successfully be dumped as it is created, keeping the fort completely clean.

Thousands of completely useless hauling jobs is hardly what I'd expect to see in a well-run fort. For keeping the relevant parts clean, dump designation would be just perfect.

This will also, however, remove your entire stone supply.  Unless you run after your miners and remove the dump command for each rock chunk they carve out, you're gonna find yourself short on tables, chairs, cabinets, doors, floodgates, bridges, walls, crafts, grates, weapon racks, and every other item that can be made out of stone.

I'd rather micromanage the clearing of stone than the ignoring of it.

As far as designating the wrong thing, that's not likely to really ever happen.  In the bed room scenarion, why would you have not designated the stone for dumping before building the bed and whatever?  all or nothing is not a very elegant fix and for people who only want to dump MOST of their stone it doesn't change anything.  I vote for designation for dumping.
