Found this thread unanswered and thought I'd revive, can anyone answer this? Since I'm wondering whether letting my Captain remain as a miner might stop him dealing justice.

Thanks.

It won't do a damn thing either way. I've had a sheriff who's also the broker wander off from the trade depot to pummel a soap maker.

Be fair though, that is just asking for it.

Well, yeah. But the poor sod had only arrived recently, and this was the first caravan after almost a year of human siege.

To be fair, I'd pummel a soapmaker for his chosen line of work.

Captains of the guard, and indeed all of the guards are useless in combat.. you can't order them into the fight.

They do, however, enforce beatings and such for justice. So, you can make a strapping dwarf in charge of beating people and slacking off during fights, OR, you can make a peasant with no stat bumps (or soap maker) do all of that.

I prefer the more evil approach myself.
My Captain/Sheriff is always an elite wrestler.
