1) Find the optimal orc size/damblock to be a challenge.
2) Try and bury the dead fast enough that the tantrum spiral might end.
3) Plan the next challenge.

For my fort which is in it's 6th year......which I'm feeling a bit bored on.

1. Do a bunch of exploratory mining on the two lowest levels (already in progress).
2. Mine it out as much as possible (hoping for alot of gold veins).
3. Make some sort of semi-megaproject.
4. Find a way to kill the fort spectactularily, maybe by locking everybody inside the semi-megaproject, making it one big tomb......and do something besides make everybody starve to death/die of thirst.

Bah, got bored of it and tried a dual water and magma death, but lag is slowing things down too much, plus I think most of them are trapped anyhow and the rest.... hundreds of miles from the nearest source of water or booze.

Short term
- making glass production start
- housing the immigrants
- make iron equipment for soldiers
- buy LOTS of flux (not on map)

Medium term
- Make walls of glass to protect the fortress
- Train marksdwarves

Long term
- Build HUGE tower made out of glass, with a magma moat

VERY long term
- transfer all dwarves to the glass tower, dig out all of the underground to make it stand on a crater (only one support)
- fill the crater whit magma
- Pull the "fun" lever

Well, my current fortress is still in mid fall of the first year, so....

Very Short Term

Get started on the workshop area after the liason leaves....
Once some more dwarfpower arrives in the spring, fully dedicate the miners to the tasks.
Fend off any annoying chasm critters if neccesary.

Short Term

Fully flesh out the bedrooms, dining room, the essentials....
Train up more miners....
whatever else

Mid Term

Do some exploratory mining (I spotted some iron in the northern section of the embark area, and the area looked like it has a good deal of resources)
Prep the magma pipe opening for the building of my megaproject idea.
Discover why there aren't any cave spider webs*....
Experiment with bridges and stuff and attempt to create hand-like motions....

Long Term

Finish my altar to Armok, place the hand thing somehow, above the magma.....

*I have a chasm which fits inside my 6X6 embark area and runs the entire North-South side of the area. It's almost completely exposed to the sky except for a bit of the fan rift (or whatever you call it) at the southern end which sticks into the mountain. While there are alot of chasm critters around, there are still empty spaces where the cave spiders could spawn (not to mention out in the open). I usually have over 50 webs scattered around by the time my first winter arrives.

Edit: update: Gah, I nearly killed one of my own miners due to dwarven stupidity. I was removing some floor tiles (decided to pave the murky pool first and then cieling it, rather than the other way around) and thought I had undesignated it in a way so it wouln't collapse. He now has a brown upper spine wound along with brown upper body, yellow right ear and yellow right upper arm and brown head wound (no brain wound though). I guess he fell on his right side. Anyways, he has the extremely tough attribute, so hopefully he doesn't stay in bed for long.

Short-term:
- Get moar steel produced.
- Get moar wood.
- Juggle squads to mix weapon types.
- Train the spring recruits.
- More bedrooms.
- Finish the battlements around the top of the fort.
- Find how the fuck things keep getting on top and PLUG THE FUCKING HOLE.

Long-term:
- Equip military with steel plate and weapons.
- Maybe dispose of all the copper armour I made as an emergency solution.
- Find more iron ore. There was one vein, there's gotta be more!
- More forges.
- Lay out a proper tomb area.
- Find more copper.
- More bins!
- Build more noble deathtraps, for drowning and long drops as well as the magma one. Also, find a way to kill nobles without dropping mechanisms into the magma pipe.

Meta-goals:
- Make goblins butcherable, or at least add a butchery reaction to strip the flesh from the bones.
- Figure out smelter reactions.

The *large serrated steel disk* strikes the Raven in the head, tearing apart the muscle, shattering the skull, and tearing apart the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Get a Duke, then a King/Queen. Hopefully, finish the overly elaborate death trap first.

finish reading how to correctly start fortress mode. realize my desperate search of iron is pointless because of goblins and then, hopefully, start a fortress that lasts at least 5 years.

1: Build two 5 man squads of bowmen to man the walls.

2: Create a customized "Fortress Guard" - A five man squad of platemail wearing humans who carry halberds and are set to patrol the entire fort.

3: Create an "army" - Ten men with leathers, spears, and shields. Ten men with chain mail, longswords, and shields.

4: Execute ANY recruits who become injured during sparring to gain the aformentioned military, as they are too weak to survive in my Spartan state.

Assorted Plans for Ice Station Goblin
Jim Groovester's Ice Castle and Labyrinth

Short Term
  • Finish Project Elements Protect, the construction of two hundred and forty bone gauntlets, bone helms, and pieces of leather armor to protect goblins from exposure who are too stupid to wear clothes by forcing them to wear armor by enabling the Hunting labor.
  • Finish Project Heated Pipes, the digging of a magma channel beneath the walls of the fortress that will keep water warm above ground.

Mid-Term
  • Continue Project Elf Elimination, the eradication of every encroaching elven entity.
  • Continue Project Human Humiliation, the halving of humans who happen haphazardly here.
  • Continue Project Dwarven Decimation, the destruction of dwarven dastards dawdling daintily for death.
  • Continue Project Stone Clear, the gathering of all stone into central locations to be processed into various craft goods or furniture.
  • Begin Project Pipe Fill, the pumping of water from the cave river into the heated aqueducts to expedite water projects on the surface.

Long Term
  • Resume Project Ice Fortress Solitude, the creation of an ice castle by bucket brigade.
  • Finish Project Cavern Expanse, the creation and expansion of large subterranean areas that are meant to look natural, including four cave rivers, an unplanned amount of subsurface caverns, and an unplanned amount of subterranean magma flows.
  • Plan Project Demon Attract, the increase of fortress wealth and population to bring the demon of the goblin civ to his throne at Ice Station Goblin.
  • Plan Project Demon Protect, elite soldiers carefully selected to be members of the Demonic Guard.
  • Plan Project Demon Conflict, the staged fight between the resident [REDACTED] in the [REDACTED] with the demon resident and ruler of the civ.
