I don't kill elves in hope they will give me something cool next year. I love modding bears to be trainable(note: I'm also on the orc mod so don't blame me)

Every year, the elves near my fortress bring me several dozen bins of Rope reed cloth, a few berries, and nothing else (except maybe some logs if my stockpiles are low). This year, in anticipation of their arrival, I built them a special trade depot inside my obsidian factory, in case they decided to bring something useful for a change.

They didn't.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Inside your obsidian factory? Ouch.

elves never give me any good stuff, but I don't want a war with the elves until I can truly enjoy it. I'm going to piss them off over and over again until I've wiped out their entire population. they will effectively commit genocide against themselves by attacking until they have no-one left, and they can send only the children and peasants.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
