Moving excess Stone
« on: July 21, 2009, 12:27:27 pm »

Right, first of all, hello. I'm new to Dwarf Fortress and after following that play along tutorial I now understand it to a basic degree.

One thing I'm stuck on is, I usually smooth and engrave my dining room, but all the stone is left over on the floor. Is there any way I can designate this to be moved elsewhere? Except for making a stone stockpile obviously..

Designate it all to be dumped

(d)-(b)-(d) I believe.

Then you need to to make a dumping site.  I believe that's under (i)-(g) or something like that.

Cheers! That's worked a treat. Dining room looks much better now.

Another option if you run into that situation is to use (d - b - h) to hide the unwanted stone.  It'll still be there technically but you won't see it and you won't have to rely on dwarven labor.

Your dwarves don't care if the floor's covered with rocks. You shouldn't either, except where it actually matters (generally, in stockpiles). If you just don't want to see it, use hide like Nil suggested.

Or dump it near your mason shop / stonecrafter shop / mechanic shop, so your trained dwarfs can be more effective. Don't forget to reclaim the stones after they are dumped. (d - b - c)

Yes, but that would be cheating.

Set up a catapult in the room and the siege operator will clear it of the excess rock. Deconstruct and move the catapult to the next room. Repeat until you have no loose stone or have a fortress full of legendary siege operators.
