Well that's... odd.
« on: December 21, 2008, 11:57:20 am »

So in my latest fort I've designated a pond indoors. No big deal. I forgot to make buckets beforehand, though, so I kept getting spammed with "Dwarf cancels fill pond: needs empty bucket" until I undesignated the pond zone... and after I designated it. After I finally got a bucket made I got an error about it being an "inappropriate building" (presumably because it didn't exist).
Here's where it gets interesting (as opposed to irritating).

Yes, each time my dwarves stopped filling the pond for lack of a bucket it seems they stored the water they planned on using.
And here I thought we didn't have magic in the game yet.
The stuff shows up under the stocks page as a liquid, I can dump it and (I guess maybe) my dwarves can probably drink it.

EDIT: Okay, some more information:
-Even with three buckets and the pond designated I continue to get errors about it being an inappropriate building.
-The stagnant water isn't stored when the task is canceled due to a lack of buckets but rather when the inappropriate building error pops up.

My problem is similar

I have channeled a square, and designated the "hole squares" as a pond.

My dwarves will "cancel fill pond: innapropriate building"

Can anyone explain this behavior? Is it a bug or am i "creating" the pond in a wrong way?

They have to be able to stand next to the zone to empty the bucket into it.  Is there anyplace where they can stand?

so, there is space to stand next to it; Is something wrong?

so, without that little floor tile covering the stairs, i get this:

the dwarfs go up to the lake with a bucket, and give this error msg.

Ah, thanks for posting the pictures.  You need to designate the zone on 150, not 149.  It's probably giving the error because a pit/pond has to be placed on empty space.

It should probably check for that before giving you cancellation spam, though, so I think it still counts as a bug.
