Any sense in assigning a soldier a room?
« on: July 17, 2009, 11:22:27 pm »

Since they have the barracks, is there any since in giving them a room?

Also the wiki says they heal slower in a room of their own vs a 'hospital' (the barracks, I guess?).  Any truth to that?  I think it had a littly 'verify' tag next to it.

They get happy thoughts from owning and sleeping in a room.

I doubt there's any truth in that bit about healing faster in the barracks.

Also some reports that barracks with beds cause more sparring injuries - jury is still out on that one.

Hmm, never had a problem with sparring injuries in barracks with beds (well, any more than usual.  Just got a guy who died of suffocation after he lost a sparring match with a spearman...).

But my barracks are fairly large.  About 400 or so tiles probably.

Dorfs with nice rooms stay happy even after their wardog gets killed. Happy dorfs don't flip out and kill everyone.

Legendary dining room and good booze is all you need.

Just remember to let them get to it every once in a while.

Yes, but where is the fun in that?

You can set the dwarves to sleep in their own beds if you want. Otherwise it's not a big deal.

As I understand it, a "hospital" bed is any bed that is not designated as a room - bedroom or barracks.  Dwarves resting in such beds have a better chance of healing their wounds at the turn of the season.
... Supposedly.
I haven't exactly done extensive testing or anything.
This may also become moot soon, as the next version is supposed to have a vastly changed wounds and healing system, complete with designated hospitals and health care professionals.

Fixed that for you  ;D
