GIMPing (image heavy)
« on: June 30, 2009, 03:59:38 am »

So being a novice GIMP artist I decided to combine a few objects to horrifying affect.
Started with this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Added this to it:

And also gave it a pair of lazers to pewpew with and a monocle, the end result was something a little like this:

But oh no I didn't stop there. Deciding to see how else I could make this awesome I added a some rocket powered skates. Afterwards, I realised that it wouldn't work as the tail was in the way and was going to be burnt. I tried to rotate the tail, but I couldn't get it right so in the end I just deleted it ending up with this horrible creature:

And it actually works to some extent, the raptor almost looks like it is in a rocket rollerblading pose.

So the point of this thread you may ask? Well one I wanted to show of my novice skills, two I want to ask, what have you GIMPed? And three I want you to challenge me to gimp something as long as it is SFW.

You should have saved the tail.  He looks like he's either crippled or has a giant ass.

Ironically, I've just now made a serious attempt at learning GIMP myself.  I've been a straight up MSPaint man my whole life, and I'm working towards a clunky symbiosis with the two - Paint for pixel by pixel editing and prep/finishing work, GIMP for all the special effects Paint can't handle.

 You speak to CIB fetishists.

But yes, I have had the pleasure to acquire Photoshop. Also, for my Paint needs, Paint.net has worked rather well.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

More images... Trying to make a Thomas the tank engine cthulhu crossover but am kind of failing to get the rendering right. My current way of doing it is either using magic wand to select the area and then putting a gradient in it like i did for the raptor lasers, but it is a bit different with these tentacles being bent and all. So what i do now is have each tentacle a different layer and render it individually using a combination of penciling in different colors then using the blur function. This is taking forever and doesn't quite achieve the effect I want it to. I tried giving the tenticles a bit more of a curve by drawing in some rounded lines but that failed aswell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated:

Edit, note this isn't actually finished yet I still need to add many facial tentacles... Just thought i would ask for some rendering advice first.
