I hate Vista and its Overprotective Protection
« on: July 25, 2009, 09:51:56 pm »

So I have Vista on my and my father's computers. Unfortunately while it USUALLY asks you if you want to allow access to a program it sometimes does it too late or doesn't even ask it just blocks. (For example to Update my HP it needs to download some files... Vista will ask and Ill allow it. Once it needs to Install them however Vista will ask, however because HP was delayed it cancells the install and considers the whole thing a failure. Thus I can never update my Printer)

Is there a way to temporarily turn it off? I tried shutting down the firewall but that doesn't work.

Don't you turn that off in the UAC thing in the control panel?

Can't say i've had that problem with windows 7 though. yet.

XP is great it is Vista I loathe. Unfortunately XP isn't an option or else I'd be using that instead.

Here's a link that shows 4 methods of turning of uac in vista. If you're not familiar with digging around the windows system go directly to the 4th option which is done via the control panel as mentioned above.

remember google is your friend....  ;) and good luck.

O_O

I need to disable it this way!?!

I didn't use Google because I thought it was obvious and I just couldn't see it (thus no one would ask), but apperantly I need to be a computer programmer.

I quite like my XP, it runs reliably, and the viruses it received (caused by my brother's stupidity, so can't be fully blamed on the computer) was eventually purged with an aggressive malware killer and HJT (with the help of a friendly expert online).

I'm not well versed in vista....
try installing it with admin-status... maybe there is a special safe-mode startup option.

bah...i was just teasing you..... vista is a big piece a crap  with sprinkles and various eye candy. Nothing wrong with asking questions since it's a completely non intuitive os that tends to remind me of an unflushed toilet.  ::)

Yet it doesn't stop there. Microsoft Word 2007 is just as bad. (I mean 2003 had clippy but you could turn it off forever)

The only file I know of that vista is over protective with his Programsx86, where it tells me I need permissions to change files: Work around? Don't put it in there.
