I think Tolkein elves were the first ones to put me off elves. Stupid poncy bastards. Fuck all of you! The dwarves single handedly held off the hordes of unending goblins for thousands of years, and the elves bugger off back to another country? not on my watch you don't you little sissy haired bastards!

*throws a ball of pure hatred at the elves*

Elf1: What..what have I done? What am I? ARGHHGRHBLGLBR *stabs himself with pointless wooden sword*
Elf2: We fail so much, we need to die. ARGHGRBLHGHLR *stabs herself with piece of paper, since it's slightly sharper than her sword*

Tolkien elves were so pansy that the simple fact that evil was gathering in mordor was killing some of them.

I used to be of the elf hate persuasion, but in my last fortress I let the time go till it reached 450 and guess what the elves did? They ate all the Demon Lords! all five goblin civs had fun killing elves, but the demons always lead the attacks. sure they all had 200+ kills to their names, but in year 341 the last demon was consumed by the head druid of the last surviving elven civ. (seriously they got their asses handed to them almost every battle) Ya eating the demon doesn't end the goblin civ and their vengeance was always fierce, especially when they were lead by kidnapped dwarves and humans.

This experience made me place DF elves in the Awesome column. the fort I made with that gen had no access to the last elf settlements so they could not tarnish their image by showing up with nothing but cloth.

I dont mind elves, they usually dont show up. When they do, yes, they bring cloth, but they also bring wood and animals. Ive gotten a cougar, 2 black bears, and an alligator off them in Worklanced (see sig).

Edit: also, what the hell is your avatar Bloogonis? Its bothering me because it seems really familiar...

Its a quadruped race that conquered half the galaxy! Spore is fun  ;D

Yes, I also enjoy the training weapons they bring so My original guard from my start 7 doesn't kill all the new recruits by accident. I have never gotten a successful breeding pair ever, but I once had a small room that had 5 Fuzzy Wamblers that I let wander around in just for fun. It helped moral some cause my dwarves would tend to die in suspicious collapses and suffocate and many seemed to adore Wamblers.

And goblin bone bolts own elves. The circle of life continues.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
