being in the wrong place at the wrong time jamoe killed 2 aliens defending a group of civilians during a terror attack before xcom was activated, for his heroism he was arrested.  during the trial he was offered a plea bargain due to not having a prior criminal record, he had to join the military.  since he had the rare experience of having killed an alien he was "volunteered" for the xcom project and was one of the first to be picked for said assignment.  after the first base attack he managed to survive the destruction of the first base, and crawl his way to the surface.  he patched himself up and spent some time out in the wilderness recuperating, after some time he walked to town called in to return to duty.  he was at once picked up and shipped back to the new xcom base, his rank stripped as punishment for going 'awol'.
