Does Dwarf Companion work with the Mike Mayday mod?
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:07:18 pm »

Trying to get DC to work, and to my knowledge I installed it properly, but it comes up with an error message 'Dwarf Fortress not running or not found' when it is very much so running.  So I was wondering if the Mike Mayday mod conflicts with it?

I just want to see the combat logs, so if it doesn't work then no big deal, but I was wondering if someone using MM had gotten DC to work and if so, if there was something special you did.

You need to be using 40d, and not 40d#, and the latest MM packs come with 40d#

Well alrighty, so it's a no go then.

For future reference, what's 40d vs 40d#?  Is 40d the last 'stable' release and the 40d# is the various numbers (like we have 40d13 right now up top) that progress to the next 4xd version?

40d is currently the latest 'official' release, 40d# are just openGL updates, attempting(and mostly succeeding) to make the game run faster.

Ok, so is there some other mod that will allow me access to the combat logs?

Not as far as I know, your best bet would be to copy your save from 40d# to 40d, they are still compatible.

But would I lose any features?

Only the semi-fast speed of the numbered versions... oh and the new zoom feature in d13.

Zoom?  What's that do?  MM uses 40d11.

It does have zoom with hotkeys (h) and you can set it to F1 to F8 or shift + f1 - f8 and it'll take you to various parts of the map you assign.  Is that what you're talking about?

I don't think I could lose that.  Too useful.

No no, Baughn(one of the guys working on the numbered versions) decided to put in a 'zoom' feature, so you could literally zoom in and out ingame, it works like changing your grid size and such in real time.

Other than that, no fundamental changes have been made between 40d and 40d#, they're the same game, one just runs faster.

Signicantly faster, I might add.

If you really feel the need to use some of the one-use tools (setting nobles to be butchered, mood, etc.), you can have two DF folders at once. One being 40d and the other being one you use. You can simply copy the save file over to the 40d to do your dirty business.
