Stair removers trapping themselves
« on: July 11, 2009, 12:24:39 pm »

Okay, so here's the deal.
I'm trying to remove some stairs by way of the "Remove Constructions" order.

However, the dwarf always traps himself by descending the stairs, THEN removing them.
Any way I can do this without the dwarf doing a stupid and trapping himself?

If you're trying to remove all the stairs on, say, the bottom level of your fortress then no, I don't think there is. If you want to block access from that level, just build a floor there, currently constructions are indestructible, nothing can break them.

Try surrounding the stair with walls, suspending the walls, then removing the stair. Then cancel the walls.

This doesn't work in every situation, but it works in most of them.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

You can try to use water and magma to make a new obsidian block where the stair is, but that would probably be a bit overcomplicated for everyday use.
