Entombed Food
« on: September 16, 2009, 05:42:41 pm »

So, one of my champions died, and in his tomb they, uh... they've placed a perfect donkey meat stew. Which has gone bad. it's not a big problem, I mean, the tomb has a door, but it is marked as owned by the deceased. I didn't know that was possible.... Anyway I can dump it?

Nice one, not sure when I'll be feeling like killing a baby but these things are good to know.
This is why we can't have nice things... someone will just wind up filling it with corpses.

no don't dump it. They placed it there so that your champion can enjoy his avorite food in the afterlife.

Seriously though, placing food in a grave or offering food to the dead is found in many cultures across the world and through time. It's pretty cool that they can do this sometimes in DF.

In any case, eventually it'll rot away entirely and the miasma will disperse.

There should be no reason for your living citizens to go into the tomb so you need not worry about the maisma bothering anybody, just let it rot.

It seems your champion died while underway to his meal, or while eating his meal.

In which case he likely wouldn't want to be buried with it. Also Cheers to delurking.

I'm betting you have your soldiers set to carry rations.

Since soldiers own the food they carry around in their backpacks, it's likely this meal made its way into the tomb along with all his other possessions.

Soldiers can get interrupted while placing food in their backpack or before they get the chance to dine. One of my champions had a dragon stew until the game crashed on me. It was waiting to be eaten in six years. She never got around to eat the dragon stew. >:(

All items that someone owned before dying are put in his tomb. So is his unclaimed food as you just now confirmed.

A quick scan of the stocks menu shows that one of the dead pack animals has a bin full of silk cloth!  It is speedily unforbidden, and my moody glassmaker sprints off to retrieve his prize amongst the smoking, charred, blood-soaked ruin that is the outdoors, totally oblivious to the carnage that was instigated on his behalf.
