Since Katsuun is right in front of the ship, will he be hit if I fire the gun? If so, I yell "KATSUUN GO RIGHT!" and, when he's out of the way, shoot the gun at the redshirts.

If not then I'll just shoot the gun.

The pirates need to move around behind the shacks to the left.  This is so that they can sneak up on the redshirts emerging from the portal, with out being engaged by the enemies superior ranged weaponry.
