Another Breeding Question
« on: March 27, 2010, 02:19:31 pm »

I searched the forums, and I read that in order to have something breed, it has to not have the NO_GENDER tag, and it has to have the CHILD:# tag. I've done this, and even with a fresh regen, my fire men/people won't breed. I let the game run for just over a year without a single birth.

I even included the littersize tag just in case.

Here's what the raw looks like:

Code: [Select]

I think it may be something specific to the magma pipe or chasm biome creatures that they won't breed unless they have been tamed, as a way of preventing fortresses from being overrun by fire imps.  If you tame a single one, they should ALL start breeding, according to forum hearsay, although I haven't tested this, personally.

I'm pretty sure I got fire imps to breed a while ago without taming them, but I'll try again.

The "firedactyls" I use in Mesozoic Dwarves only occur in magma, and they breed on their own without taming. Here's their entry:

I don't remember exactly when they reproduced, though. Maybe let the game run for more than just the first year? Set the fps cap in the init file to something arbitrarily high, and it'll pass quickly.

Also make sure to check that they aren't all the same gender, you could just be unlucky.

You need PET if you want them breeding whenever, or PET_EXOTIC if you only want it when your DM is around.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

The [PET] tag worked. Thanks!
