Will war dogs produce puppies?
Will they be butcherable? Will they supply the same amount of resources as dogs?

Yes, yes, yes, but they will just be regular puppies.

Awesome!
Do puppies yield as much as dogs/kittens as much as cats?

Yes, yes, and NO. Baby animals produce less meat and fat and possibly bones than the full-size ones.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

lol no. But I'll test it

EDIT: Well carp, disproven by science:

Dog:

- 1 Skin
- 1 Skull
- Meat [5]
- Bones [5]

Puppy:

- 1 Skin
- 1 Skull
- Meat[3]
- Bones[3]

(And yes, I just killed a puppy to test that, are you happy now?  ;D )

young = 2/3 adult yield, rounded down.

(And I thought carps were doable, but only w/ the proper mix of mods and creative trapping techniques. Mebbe no.)

It's 2/3rds? Damn, I'm going to have to get into the puppy business. I always waited for stuff to grow up because I knew there was a penalty, but I didn't know how much.

The only real downside is what to do with all those puppy skulls.

If you want to do it right, they should be on pedastals without access - build a ramp, place the totem, and then deconstruct the ramp, so monkeys (or gobbo thieves) won't steal them.

The only practical use for skulls I'm aware of is to help train your bone carver. Once that guy turns legendary, I usually let them rot.

I find that skull totems are also a good way to train other crafters.  Skull totems can be decorated with tons of stuff, to the point that I start to wonder if anybody remembers that there's a skull in there.  Copper studs, green glass rings, insane amounts of fish bone, the occasional turtle shell, and so forth.  I think it saves space to have as much training as possible done on a single item.

I agree in principle, but I think saving - not to mention making more - totems for decorating is unnecessary. You should have furniture, weapons and stacks of bolts each in the triple or quadruple digits, which should be plenty to train your guys without cranking out something as otherwise useless as totems for that purpose.
