Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel 1.0 and the Y-Axis
« on: July 05, 2009, 02:38:55 am »

I has: A Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Racing 1.0 USB, no force-feedback.

I does not has: The ability to make it treat the pedal (Z-axis) like a negative Y-axis movement, and therefore in many racing games, old and modern alike, I must either use buttons for my gas and brake or not have brakes at all.

Does anybody know if there's a driver update or something to fix this? Yeah, it's a stupid question about an ancient piece of hardware, but I love my wheel *almost* enough to justify hunting down that unicode heart. I don't really want to spend money on a new wheel, since aside from that one problem I personally think my old wheel is just about perfect in every way.

Hi, i don't have a sidewider wheel, but after quick search on LFS forum found this topic:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=8938

there is some MS drivers file, ( http://rapidshare.com/files/3040815/MS_SW.zip.html ) maybe it will help.

also there is more complicated solution, the AutoHotkey. Changing axis should be possible there ... but writing a script to it could be tricky.

Dang, I couldn't find that for years. It's EXACTLY the piece of software I need, from the looks of it.

However, I'm having a terrible time trying to make it run on vista- whenever I try to open the properties for my wheel, it tells me that the windows host rundll.exe had to close. It claimed to be shutting it down by DEP, but I turned off DEP and the same thing happened minus the subsequent DEP message.

If anyone has a suggestion, say, otherwise I'll keep hunting for a fix.
