I lost a LOT of faith in Stephen Kind after reading Desperation.  That really downed me, especially since he pulled in a character I really liked from Rose Madder and sprayed the same filth on her.

I think the main thing that draws me to Stephen King is just how he can describe the most mundane things in the most interesting ways...  He can fill pages talking about a flower vase, and you're begging to hear more of it.

Stephen King = writing god. I never got over how creepy his concept of time travel was in the Langoliers, among other things.

Terry Pratchett on the other hand, is one of the quirkiest, funniest writers I've ever read. He makes me wish Douglas Adams wasn't dead.

I actually got bored after the second book in the Hitchhiker series.

Did you manage to get your hands on the Dirk Gently stuff?

Oh, also:

Kurt Vonnegut rocks.

Forgot about Kurt Vonnegut. Honestly though, I've only read Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse 5.
