raising skills
« on: January 16, 2010, 07:21:51 pm »

so I've been playing for about a week, read on here somewhere that wiki was out of date so now I'm stuck on raising certain skills. Namely social skills like persuation, law, business, religion, and pychlogy.

A very effective way to raise persuasion and law is jury tampering.  Also persuasion can be ground by discussing the issues with everyone in sight.  Psychology is acquired by interrogating people.  The social skills aren't very easy to acquire but can be gained by interrogating people with those skills.  You don't really need them though if you have decent interrogation.

Interrogation isn't a skill.  Psychology is the skill most useful for interrogation.

To elaborate on what mainiac said, interrogation is the old name for psychology, so many people occasionally refer to the psychology skill as interrogation. Interrogation as it exists in the game now is just a tactic -- it is what you do when you kidnap a conservative, take them back to your safehouse, and then assign people to hostage tending and try to convert them.

Psychology is the skill that governs this most directly, both in attack (the interrogator needs psychology) and defense (a target with psychology is hard to break). Religion and business also play a role during interrogations in determining your ability to communicate with the captive in their own language, but they're less important when you have a high skill interrogator or are using rough tactics during the interrogation.

You can train psychology by kidnapping people and interrogating them.

It's like disguise without a disguise. It raises when conservatives don't notice you when you're in inappropriate clothing/with an inappropriate gun.

So run around the park naked to get really stealthy.  They'll wish you were invisible at least.

I think the "being naked in public to raise stealth" was nerfed in the latest batch of revisions.

And everyone loves to see my Liberal Baywatch Squad raiding the Sweatshop in their birthday suits...

Careful though, if your baywatch squad goes too overboard, the US sends it's most elite units to take you down a peg.

Effectiveness is determined by what their job is when you make them a sleeper. Judges and such are high effectiveness, janitors are low effectiveness.

For basic recruitment (non-brainwashing) of sleepers, always go for the moderates, except with Judges (as no moderate judges exist).

When you recruiter gets enough skill, you will even be able to talk conservatives into joining the LCS (we're talking high double-digit Persuasion and Charisma).
