Starcraft, anyone?
« on: June 29, 2009, 07:29:06 am »

It seems to me that quite a number of Bay12-ers own and play Starcarft. Question is, why aren't we playing against each other?

So, if anyone is up for some Starcraft, register here. We can arrange exact time for games and play either at Battle.net or via Hamachi.

I play on Europe as Jelica. Due to my crappy connection, I can't host and I can only do 1v1 most of the time (sometimes late at night I can do 2v2).

I had Starcraft as a little kid, where I mostly just play UMS maps. Ten recently as a few months ago I decided to try the proper deathmatches against the computer. Seems if I try to build an early rush the computer meets me half-way and it is a coin flip if either of us win. If I don't, their rush gets me.

So yes, the Starcraft matches always seemed a bit odd for me.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

What's so funny about my last name?

And best way to learn is to watch some replays. But here's a tip to get you started: don't stop worker production for anything. It doesn't matter if you're saving for barracks, a new command centre or a siege tank - SCVs are always the priority. The game has been made so that during early game you'll have just enough resources for everything you need if, and only if, you constantly produce workers. Of course, deciding what you need can be a bit tricky, but you can just steal some standard build orders from a replay.

Brood war doesn't have a cd key. If you have your starcraft cd case, and it has the cd key on it, you can put it in the battle.net website, and it'll count it as owning the starcraft anthology. Any cd keys you put into battle.net, blizzard allows you to do a digital download of the game(s) to install on your computer (instead of having to install from your CDs).

The digital-download version of the starcraft installer asks for the cd key (I don't remember the cd version, possibly it's supposed to just know it?). What exactly did it say when "it says [you're] using the wrong cd key?" If it says it belongs to someone else or something like that, I suppose it's possible someone randomly generated or stole your cd key.
