X by X numbers when designating areas?

I think it would be nice if the designation boxs had the number of square units displayed on the side, dont you?

How about local coordinates for the cursor too?  I find myself constantly designating an (otherwise empty) z-level with dig designation so I can find the center of the map.

Yes! This could even be used as a measuring tool. Just set the cursor where you want to measure from, hit enter, move it to where you want to measure to, and check the length/height/whatever it is.
This would be great for massive constructions you THINK you have right, but upon counting each of the tiles with 'k' you find youve gone 7 tiles too far, and you commit suicide.

So yeah, great idea.
