What do you miss out on if you have less than 100 dwarfs?
« on: June 27, 2009, 08:25:19 am »

I was changing my pop cap in the init file and it says I need at least 80 for a king and 100 for all the game features.

What will I be missing out on if I only have a pop of 80?

Thanks

All those lovely idlers that keep the fort moving :c I love getting loads of Dwarves, it makes me happy cause I know a job gets done extremely fast.

As for nobles, I don't know, sorry :c I'm pretty sure if you don't have the population, they don't trigger. I think babies trigger it, so if you only had 80 Dwarves, and they had babies, you'd probably have a population of 97 or so. I dunno, I just know that if you don't have that population, nobles aren't triggered.

I am pretty sure you cannot get a philosopher without 100+ dwarfs and sufficient amounts of various measures in wealth.

I think you get an Elf Liaison, don't quote me on it though.

You just get more people who demand expensive rooms, get angry if people have nicer rooms then they, and make weird demands

(My mayor likes SOCKS for soem reason)

which, if they don't come, someone either gets locked or the hammerer beats the living carp out of him.

As you can see, not much.

According to the wiki limiting your population to 100 will prevent you from qualifying for a Count at 110 population or a Duke at 140 population* among other requirments (see Immigrant Nobles).

*Exact number needs verification, but there are at least two accounts of the Duke arriving as either the 140th or 141st dwarf.  Infants and children seem to count toward the population for the purposes of attracting nobility.

EDIT:
Your own judgment as to what you are "missing" is up to you.  However, if you set your population cap at 100 and turn off infants and children but later decide you want the extra trouble challenge fun(!) it is easy to undo.
