I have a problem, my dwarves would rather go jobless than make a wall. most of it's done, and the spots they refuse to make are reachable, I have the materials, but they are completely ignoring it. What's going on? How can I fix it?

Were the walls suspended?

Check the ones uncompleted with 'q' to see their status.

Sometimes they'll suspend a wall if they're scared, thirsty, hungry, forgetful, amorous, spacey, lazy... some of those might be made up

Open your unit list with 'u'.  Find the dwarf with masonry activated and be sure he isn't trapped somewhere or in a fey mood.

Dwarfs cannot build walls from a diagonal corner, they must build the wall from a flat side.  Check to see if something is blocking the flat sides, such as a tree.

well, first, they're platinum walls, and second, Thanks, I didn't know they had to be constructed from a flat side, I figured it would work like movement.

You'd need a metalworker of some sort then to make the wall, if its platinum bars. Native platinum works with masonry though.

Yep, and if you're in doubt - the game actually tells you what skill is needed when you "q"uery the (unfinished) construction. In case of platinum walls, the display says "Needs any Metalsmithing".
