Dwarves cancelling eachother
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:05:08 pm »

Hi, suddenly my dwarves are cancelling eachother's jobs, constantly.
What's causing this?

You're going to have to be more specific. It could be any number of things going on.

My out of the blue guess, something's interrupting them, like a hostile creature or animal.

What are the exact error messages you're getting?

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Yeah there should always be a listed cause; if the 'Site Inaccessible' is coming up perhaps you locked a door or took down a necessary staircase. Wild animals are also often causes. If they are suspending things, maybe there are items blocking the sites. You might also have incorrect resources, i.e not enough steel bars to make that steel throne (you need 3). Sometimes if your dwarves have a long title you do not immediately see why they are canceling because your screen is not wide enough to fit their huge name and their reason; in this case hit [a] for announcements and check the specific reason there.

Urist Udzekth cancels Ludom Ludos; Not in the mood for it anymore.

Ludom Ludos: Dammit honey, how else are we to make a bloodline?!
Urist Udzekth: You are just never into it! You just want to finish as quickly as possible! You never think of my needs!

Dwarves cancel jobs for a large number of reasons... loss of access, Scared by goblins, Someone going insane ad trying to eat their face... the Dreaded groundhog...

You see, booze is a parasite. It lives off dwarves and compels them to dig into the ground so as to create massive defences to protect it's self. It really shouldn't be called dwarf fortress, Booze fortress would make much more sense.

Or, guessing by his wording, it could be that he's trying to build something, that only has two one-wide tile ways leadin to it. In which case it could be that they are doing a dance in order to avoid to have to lay down in order to let the other pass.

Tantrumming or berserk dwarves, that's the only way i have seen a dwarf cause job cancellation spam.
