I feel sad starting up new fortresses. :(

I've been following the dev log too closely. I'm too aware of what my forts don't have, but will have at some point in the future.

They feel sad without Hospitals, squad formations, underground features, and burrows. They feel sad with injured dwarves unable to drink booze. They feel sad with no underground fungus forests and lakes.

And the saddest part is the HFS still kills me every time. I'm sad because of lack of new stuff, and I haven't even figured out all the old stuff yet!!

I also decided to make 5 new "goblinoid" civilizations, like Orks and Hobgoblins and stuff. But I'm sad because they refuse to be hostile. All the uber-goblins want to do is trade with me. :(

Enabling babysnatching will make your new races hostile. Somebody else will probably give you some more advanced and better advice, wait for it.

The real thing that makes me sad about building new fortresses is, tho, the fact that I never find a perfect cliff with two perfect layers of sand below.

That's a soluable problem.

If you want tougher siegers, the Orc Mod provides in spades.  Forum discussion (includes info on what needs to change to make new races be properly hostile)Orc Mod Download.

The way the orc mod orcs were made reliably hostile was by removing the CAN_SPEAK tag from them-it guarantees they will only siege you, unless they have the babysnatcher tag/item thief tag. You can give it back to them after the first time they siege you, and in that fort you won't have to worry about them trading.

Lol heh....this is why I am not playing since months now. You are not alone mate.  ;)
