Belts

Belts, just belts. Leather belts, metal belts, belts with golden buckles, belts with studs of platinum, belts made of elephants, belts made of elves, belts garnered with the skulls of the slain, belts with names, belts passed down from beer soaked generation to generation.

Dwarves need belts!

Both.

Tool belts?  Belt pouches?  Sheathes?  I can see a lot of good things branching off from this idea, for once certain things become a bit more elaborate.

Yes, please!  It would be nice to have someplace to put my weapon when I can no longer grasp with it.

I played a few MUDs that had belts and containers implemented, and it led to some very interesting concealment of items.  You would get slapped by the immortals for overstuffing your pockets, but that was because they had a piss poor encumberance system in place for item storage and carrying capacity in place.

I would love to see dwarfs actually utilize containers and weapon storage and proper armor layering.  Have no idea what formulas to use for the balancing act to keep the game from having obscure numbers gaming oddities, but would like to see a better system than currently.  Weight, size, capacity, weighing down, overstuffed pockets and sacks...

Belts with GOBLIN SKULLS on the groin.
Belts formed by the skins and skulls of your 12 children that died in combat.
Sure you brought them into combat yourself when they were but tots, but had one entered the teen years not so many skins would have been needed.

Belts with DRAGON SKULLS on the groin.

Much better!

Seriously, belts and the associated containers and decorations would really pave the way for a lot of fun behaviors, and be wicked stylish to boot. We've been over this before with sheathes, but it's so much fun to engage the possibilities that spring from this.

Questions: Should belts be decorated with skulls or skull totems? Should both options be available, in game? Should this task belong to the leatherworker or the bonecrafter?

I assume that the more traditional decorations, such as studs, spikes and gems will still apply.

In fact... Why can't I decorate my throne with a *dragon skull totem*?

It'd be a nice way to tide me over, until the day I can surround my fortress with !!Elf Head!!s on Iron Pikes.

That went to a kind of weird place...

Who needs skulls? Real dwarves decorate their belts with menacing spikes of adamantine (actualy, real dwarves decorate everything with menacing spikes of adamantine), which would also have some interesting side effects...

Bah, who needs a belt when you can just hold things in your mouth? I have set my mouth as a grasper, just like a cat_mouth. Now they wear mouth gloves and carry around steel battleaxes with their teeth.
Still not sure if it impacts fighting prowess, but I think my recruit wrestlers are much faster at killing things than they should be.

I ought to give dwarves their own "dwarf_mouth" so everyone else doesn't walk around with spears and bows in their mouths.

Can dwarves tri-wield?
