How to keep Soldiers out of Civilian Room?
« on: June 09, 2009, 11:10:50 am »

Ok, how do I keep the faggoty Soldiers out of the Barracks for my civilians? I gotta do this, cause my Barracks is in the middle of my entrance maze, and if I have civilians walking around there, people are gonna die. So, I need to know :c

Would sticking an armor stand and weapon rack make the room a preferred sparring / soldier area or what?

P.S. Found out a cool bug :D If you Draft someone into the Military who is on duty, then undraft them, they start working again ;)

Well, you start by not using a barracks for the civilians.
Barracks is *technically* for soldiers, not civilians.
Make some bedrooms.

Some people would call that a "feature".  Others a ploy. It's well known.

Don't label your barracks as a "barracks".

You have a big room, with many beds. Designate a "room" from each bed, but none of them as barracks. If they overlap, their value will drop, and any dwarf should be able to afford that.  That should work out.

Or just throw a lot of beds somewhere WITHOUT designing a room. They'll sleep just as fine. I think.

I loaded up my save in the new version, spent a minute trying to find my archery range before figuring it was the room with Xs down both sides: bins of ammo and archery targets.
Urist McCrossbower cancells practice crossbowery: Unsure of which end of the room to shoot at.
