engravings... happy little trees
« on: June 06, 2009, 07:26:35 am »

i have postponed engraving 90% of my fortress until i had some ambushes and whatnot. i am interested in having only engravings from the beginning of my fort to present, none from before year 202 (my start). is this possible in the init or somewhere else? the engravings i do have seem to focus on a sasquatch killing a goblin in year 100, and i am tired of hearing about it!

It's random. Your dwarves will carve *any* historical events they know about. On the bright side, maybe you'll get something epic light urist mcEpic ripping out the heart of a dragon or something like that.

argh, thanx for the info.

i'm gonna wait a few more years, maybe kill off the elven caravan, kill them as well. hopefully with enough goblin/kobold/elven deaths it'll overcome the ratio to historic events. maybe.

If nothing of note happens, you get "dwarves, surrounded by dwarves".  The splendor, the spectacle.  ::)

Embark on a skeletal ocean. You'll get PLENTY of dwarves struck down engravings, or urist mcwarrior slaying skeletal sharks and whales.

i do not know where a skeletal ocean is, sorry lol. i haven't seen that, all i see are sinister, haunted and evil lands.

sidenote:   i just noticed the name of my fortress is "HelmedPearl".

does that mean my fortress is a clitoris?!

No, but now you have an interesting design plan to work off of.

OH FFFFFFFFFFFFFU

so made 12 statues out of high quality stuff, decorated em with bone, stud with metal, encrusted with gems. turned em into a statue garden out in the plaza, because they tend to hang out in their bedrooms an awful lot.

and within 3 minutes i had a party goin on. dammit. i've read parties are work-killers. true or not, and if so, how long do they last?

I have engravings of artifacts I didn't even make in this fort, goblins being slain, querns, immigrating dwarves, and drowning elves.

Parties attract all idle dwarves, AFAIK. You can cancel them by removing the designation allowing them.

A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Keep them busy, and parties will be at a minimum. On a side note, just add doors and lock them when you don't want them to have parties. It can keep idlers out of the way, and give happy thought (last time I checked).
