Goblin Crucible
« on: June 06, 2009, 04:07:32 am »

I made this gobbo killing tunnel:

http://mkv25.net/dfma/movie-1396-goblincrucible

It's not the most elegant trap but it gets the job done.

Nice!
But you'd have to time the lever pulling perfectly.. =/
Also, what's that about the Metalsmiths guild? Wasnt the guilds part of the 2d versions only?

I'm pretty sure I saw that the ends were blocked off.

Anyway, this trap is made of pure win and pure awesome.
(The glass is win and the magma is awesome.)

That movie wasn't even the best that I got.

Right after it I got the rest of the siege (maybe 30) and fried all of them.  I even had a goblin get squeezed through the grates and he fell through all the magma to the bottom of the volcano.

I still get guild requests but not often.

The ends are sealed off with flood gates.  I'm thinking about putting some pressure plates in the middle so that they close automatically (just need a little more bauxite).  I'm glad you guys like it.

Hate to break it to ya but I cracked this idea a few months ago and I already perfected it.

Level 1 (top)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Level 2 (middle)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Level 3 (bottom)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Floodgates on level 1 allow me to close it off and to turn it into a maze to delay gobbos while I pull the necessary levers.
On level 2 is a bunch o' bauxite grates, the floor tiles are needed as grates cannot be built if surrounded by open space.
Level 3 is the reservoir.

In all my time playing 3d, I have never seen a guild request. What version are you on?

The mayor takes them occasionally, takes pretty mature fort to see it happen though in my experience.

My forts been running for ten years now.

I'm running 40d11.

Also Nilus that is an awesome system which is much more elaborate than mine.  It looks like it works a bit differently than mine.  Does yours allow you to recover the goods and allow wagons to pass?

EDIT:  I see yours does allow for recovery of goods.

I've seen them happen. I think it has something to do with dwarves talking to the manager about lack of work. When the manager talks to the mayor about it, the mayor will sometimes mandate a few jobs to be completed.

Also, nice trap. I'd try to find a way to reduce the magma spillage, just so that it's more elegant. Maybe elevating it up a z-level would do the trick.

The magma spillage is actually on purpose.  I needed to be sure it would drain completely and I prep this before use so the magma would fill back up preventing it from draining.
