Other handheld consoles (or "Screw the DSi")
« on: May 29, 2009, 02:47:00 am »

Dingoo A320 ~85$ (or a GBA?) Brand New!!!
NES & GBA and  is the only really reliable emulator right now. More will come.
About as powerful as GP2x, about the same potential (all WIP).
Can play movies ripped directly from DVD very well, good MP3, surprisingly good speakers in it (headphones supported too of course), built in radio that works surprisingly well.

GP2X ~don't bother
GP2x ~130$ (or a DS Lite)
GP2x Wiz ~180$ (or a DSi) New!!!
For all GP2x read the left & right bar on the page scrolling down to see what emulators and homebrew each model can run. Don't drool on your keyboard. Everything for previous models will eventually be on the Wiz. It just came out, so be patient.

Pandora ~340$ (Or a Quake III capable UMPC/Netbook)  Preorders in December!!!
Most powerful handheld console made to date. On the border of a UMPC or netbook. Only big as a DS.

Discuss and support the opensource mobile gaming movement.

Theres a really good DSi emulator called no$gba, you should check it out, it plays gba games too.

It does have some issues (thats why you may not have mentioned it, if so I apologise), but its worth a look

No$gba is not a DSi emulator. It is a DS emulator. An old, and now defunct one at that.

Also, The Pandora is capable of playing Quake 3 on high settings, and basically anything you can install on linux.

Might take a little button remapping to make everything playable.

Actually, no$gba is the best there is when it comes to general compatibility and speed. Using something like Disgaea as the base, no$gba is at least on par with other emulators. DeSmuME runs it at the same speed and with the same glitches, and iDeaS runs it better, but it's too slow.

No$ is quickly being caught up to on all fronts by other emulators. Already compatibility has been surpassed by DeSmuMe, and possibly iDeaS.
