How to Dump Caged Enemies into an arena?
« on: May 28, 2009, 06:15:47 am »

Guys, i'm getting really pissed off. Whenever I try and dump a hostile into a 1x1 square that falls into a big arena, they always escape because either my dwarf takes it out the cage and tries to walk it over, or drags the cage to the pit and then tries to dump, then gets a cancellation along the lines of "Interrupted blah blah" it's pissing me off because I want my Marksdwarf to get awesome skills.

Linking cages up to levers and shit is NOT an option, it takes too much time and is a hassle. I just want to dump the bastards in easily...

It is too an option. Two mechanisms and a bit of waiting is too much of a hassle?

Make a custom stockpile adjacent to the pit that only accepts full cages. If it's adjacent, they shouldn't have a chance to react.

Are you trying to pit kobold thieves and goblin snatchers? Those are the guys that resist and try to escape. Enemy soldiers don't.

Ah thanks ;) Yeah, Kobolds always try and escape. Putting them right near the pit will stop this problem?

Also, do my Soldiers get any more experience for fighting fully equipped enemy soldiers? IE With iron mail and sword etc. Or should I just strip em to avoid injury to my guys?

Your prisoners might last longer, which may or may not give your soldiers slightly more experience.

Theoretically, yes. Pitted animals get teleported directly into the pit when the dwarf doing the pitting reaches the ledge. If they start at the ledge, the kobold might not have time to try and escape before he's dumped into the arena.

This should work. It can also be used to get around the bug where dwarves see enemies in the pit and drop who they were about to throw in by setting your pit up like this.
Code: [Select]
XXXXXXXXXX
  CD_
XXXX XXXX
X place X
X  pit  X
X  here X
X = walls
C = cage
D = dwarf
_ = hatch cover

This means that the placed enemy will be put in the square directly under the hatch cover, teleporting it through without needing to open it. This then avoids the chance that a dwarf will see an enemy already in the pit and drop the one that they are throwing in. This is currently the best method to avoid escapes with the exception of levers and cages.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
