Flying webs!
« on: May 25, 2009, 10:36:28 am »

Currently making a massive cavern inside a mountain spanning LOTS of Z levels.... (Moria++)

But I've just noticed that the cave spider webs that were lying on thr bottom level are now still at their original Z-level... and are now suspended mid-air with no support whatso-ever.

This other report was slightly different, but judging from Toady's reply, they should hang there as long as they weren't knocked around by a cave-in.

A large stone outcropping above a pit offended my sense of aesthetics, and I collapsed it. After the dust settled, I had several cave spider webs suspended over nothing. There are two on the level the outcropping occupied, two more on the level under it, and three seven levels below that. My uninformed guess is that the cave-in threw them around, and the game isn't checking if they should be falling.

The same collapse also generated a bunch of downward slopes made of air, but that's already in the list of bugs.

Running v28.181.39c with WINE on Ubuntu linux.

I think it's still a property of web objects that they can hanging in the air (and this is used by giant cave spider ambushes, etc.), but if they were pushed by the cave-in, then they probably should have been destroyed.

Guess I'll try removing them by dropping the ceiling... or by dropping magma, once this damned cave is dug out.... got 35 dwarves temporarily living in a hallway, while they are for the bottom level to be reached.... And now the goblins came... can't wait til the Orcs show up....

You could also build "ladders" (stacked staircases) up to them, and build a loom; your dwarves would then collect the webs to be spun into silk thread at the loom.
