Specific containers
« on: May 11, 2009, 02:51:49 pm »

I though some time ago, that DF could use a few dedicated containers more.

For example, a coin purse would be a wearable item, that a dwarf can use to hold certain amount (50? 100?) coins.

A scabbard, likewise would be a wearable item, where dwarf can hold the sword or other weapon. (and keep his hands free)

Cabinet should likely be used to hold clothes. Chest should hold most of dwarfs possessions, so he won't have to throw socks all over the fortress.

A pocket flask to hold some booze, that the dwarf can sip when he get's thirsty.

And maybe some sort of jewelery box, for those rings, amulets and large gems.

How do people like these ideas? I'm mostly thinking items that the dwarf could carry on him, and hold items in. (like the coin purse and pocket flask).

If you are a goblin, you know you joined the wrong siege when the grates come down and bridge raises behind you, trapping you inside.

I like this idea, however I would suggest that for now, allow dwarf to hold an arbitrary amount of coins.  Since assuming the valuation of each coin is dependent on the value of the metal they're made, 100 coins may be too small for purchasing items expensive items.

A nice idea, but I would suggest a simple belt, to allow the dwarf to carry weapon of arbitrary type, since scabbard refers primarily to sword.  In extension, a dwarf should be able to hold two different weapons type (a crossbow and a melee).

I think it doesn't matter whether dwarf use cabinet to store cloth and chest to store junk.  You can have cloth in chests and items such as mugs in cabinet and it will still make sense.

I think this had been suggested before, namely a portable booze supply.

And maybe some sort of jewelery box, for those rings, amulets and large gems.
I think jewelery box may be too small to be a "furniture" type item to build.  Chest can do that just fine.  But if needed, it should behave like a bag, so it can be contained inside another container.

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.
