item is red in farm plot

What does it mean when a seed type is red in the farm plot screen? For winter, Plump Helmet is red right now.

You can't grow anymore until next season.

Actually, it means you can't plant anymore until next season. That's semantics though.

Actually, it means that there's not enough time left in the season for the crop to mature to harvest before the season change, where it may not be available for planting next season. If you want to get technical.

This will always happen at the end of winter, even for crops that are available year-round.

these guys are way off. it means your dwarves hate that particular plant and you have to make airplane noises and fly it into their mouth when they giggle.

Usually this problem is solved though with a mayor mandating that all dwarves eat their veggies or go to bed without supper.
Enforced of course by a hammerer with "Demonfury the Tainted Sorrows" the artifact adamantine hammer.
