Aspiring to make a tileset.
« on: May 09, 2009, 04:02:45 pm »

Hello all, I've been playing for awhile now and I've been yearning to make my own tileset past modifying an existing one.

My main problem is that I have trouble finding the limits of each grid on the .bmp. Like I'll draw something to represent a barrel, but it's graphics will leak onto the graphic above. Is there a way to possibly create a grid for me to plop my graphics on without painstakingly drawing one myself?

One more thing, on graphical tilesets, what does PAGE_DIM mean?

TILE_DIM is the dimension of one tile in pixels.  PAGE_DIM is the number of tiles in each row:column (aka the number of columns and rows, respectively).

This probably applies to other image editors (like Gimp and Photo$hop), but I know that Paint Shop Pro will allow you to turn on a non-printing grid on any scale you like. I set mine to 16x16 pixels, in a color NOT present in my tileset, and that helped ENORMOUSLY in selecting and editing stuff properly.

Happy modding!
