ALLIGATORS! (And you thought Carp were bad)
« on: May 08, 2009, 07:48:43 am »

I just had a single Alligator charge up the side of the mountain, maul 3 dwarves, eat another 7 war dogs, then dance around my fortress eating the remaining 4 dwarfs (all of whom were armed with crossbows and fired at it 2 - 3 times apiece before it closed in on them) and the last 5 war dogs.

By the end it had a single wound; a damaged leg.

Ho-lee-shit.

And my new fortress is named Despairdeaths, set up by The Mournful Portals.

And jesus christ there are Crocodiles and Alligators everywhere.

--EDIT--

It's the same spot.

It's exactly the same spot! The Magma's in a diff spot and it's all forest, no badlands, but the rock and river are identical, despite the fact that the overmap it generated was completely different. How in the hell?

--EDIT2--

THERE ARE ALLIGATORS EVERYWHERE.

--EDIT3--

IT HAS EXACTLY THE SAME ANIMALS. WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?

--EDIT4--

UNICORNS, AND ELEPHANTS. AND ALLIGATORS.

Seriously, if i can ever survive more than a season this is going to be the bestest place ever.

Well, the game uses fairly realistic simulations when generating. Rivers generally will have the same types of rock and critters.

Stop panicking, and capture some alligators! These kind of beasts are excellent for defense. ;)

I understand that unicorns and elephants generally leave you alone. Capture some elephants to breed for food, and capture some alligators...for some "fun" My personal suggestion is gladiatorial matches between 1 gobbo and two or three crocs. Bonus points if your dining hall surrounds the arena. Even more bonus points for devising a system to clean the floor after each match, more so if it's automated. Magma or water both work.Actually, if you can teach the gobbos to swim...do sea battles between them and the crocs. Don't view them as dangers, view them as a source of good ol' fun and profit.

Don't know about dwarfs, but I would stay the hell away from that place. Dwarfs must not be genre savvy.

likely scenario:

migrants walking though the woods to the fort. they see a horned figure speak to him.

"hi, have you seen fortress Despairdeaths?"

"yes. it is right here."

"but all we see is ruins.where are they?"

"their worthless blood fills  Armok's rivers and their pathetic cacophony of screams amuse their unfathomably vile and infinitively merciless tormentors!!"
"uhh, those big words don't make no sence to us.."
"Don't worry, I have personally arranged a special demonstration for you, something that you won't forget for the next ten thousand years...."

fun things happen

I understand that unicorns and elephants generally leave you alone.

They leave you quite happily alone, until all of a sudden they don't.

My halls were awash with Alligators, Saltwater Crocodiles, Hippos, Elephants and Unicorns. I think they were fighting amongst themselves a bit too, but i can't be certain, because everything was covered in blood and i died again.

I've decided to go for a diff location for now, i'll return to that god forsaken hellhole when i come up with a new plan to conquer it (it has tons of iron and flux and magma, so if i can just survive for a bit i can get some nice steel clad knights running around.)

It's full of Alligators and Crocodiles, so the name is oddly appropriate.
