You can link infinite items to a single lever, and multiple levers to an item.

The problem is that the lever doesn't cause the item to "alternate", back and forth, depending on how you start.  It either "opens" the item, or "closes" it - as defined by that item.  So coordinating two items may or may not work the way you want it to, and if not there's no way to change it except getting two levers/triggers (and/or some complex "DF as computer" techniques).

is there a way I can link 2 things with 1 lever? i want to make a lever that 1: uses the drawbridge to catapult invaders back, while also has a hammer of armok swing down and smash my adversaries. [that is if im understanding the wiki correctly]
Not like that, no.
The most you could do is replace your "catapult" bridge with floodgates instead, this would get rid of the catapulting(which isn't that reliable in the first place) but it would still block your entrance when need be, and you can link that lever to your "hammer" bridge as well, so when the floodgates are open, your bridge is raised, and when your floodgates are closed, your bridge slams shut.
Things that can be linked to levers and the like only have 2 states, on and off, these states are determined by the lever itself, not by what position it is in when they are linked to it.

sucks that I couldnt go with my main plan then. at least with a method of them standing still at the entrance, I can still have the giant swatter flatten them into the pavement

So, could I link a lever to a cage (or cages) and a floodgate, and have the same lever open the cages (to release the nasties) and close the floodgate (to keep the nasties in the death pit)?

From reading above, it seems the answer would be no.

Correct, you would have to pull the lever twice, the first will open the cage and the floodgate, the second will close the floodgate. :P

Dispossible to drain, not to deal with.  There are several approaches, among them digging around, collapses and magma.  Aquifers can be a stone bitch (no pun intended).
