integrate 'justdigitout' into next release.

in my latest megaproject ive found great use in this little tweak, and ive been using it so my dorfs dont undesignate hot stones they find and dig properly to where i want them to.


my suggestion is to integrate a feature similar to this in the 'o' standing orders screen:

d: digging orders

wet stone -> pause and undesignate, undesignate only, dig anyway
warm stone -> pause and undesignate, undesignate only, dig anyway
metal -> pause and undesignate, undesignate only, dig anyway
economic -> pause and undesignate, undesignate only, dig anyway
stone -> pause and undesignate, undesignate only, dig anyway
gem -> pause and undesignate, undesignate only, dig anyway


for example, if you are excavating in search of that river, you can set wet stone to undesignate only and they will stop at the wet stone, but it wont pause and center on the area.

Maybe just ask the player "Undesignate?(y/n)" Then if no it ignores for any attached deignations ir yes it undesignates all attached designations.

alfie's suggestion is the one that I'm going to (weakly) support, as it then at least gives the option, and is much easier on Toady to code. I don't MIND being stopped and drawn to where they find warm/wet stone, and redesignating is just a tiny hassle.

In all honesty, I think Toady has much more important things to work on right now than making things easier on players.

This is at least half done, due to the next version's support for editing announcement options so that stuff like this won't cause auto-pauses.  Not sure if it'll still undesignate though.

In all honesty, I think Toady has much more important things to work on right now than making things easier on players.

I love how DF players are more interested in finding new ways to lose than to win :).

Digging is such a mind-numbingly slow process for beginning miners and dazzlingly fast for legendary miners that I would agree with this, even though some will point out that it takes out some of the player's attentiveness that is a big part of DF's gameplay.  And it would allow for great fun when someone realizes they hit the magma pipe without turning on the warm stone warnings.

I once had to dig a tunnel right below an ocean, an right above an aquifer.
Having this would have saved me about 100 redisignations  :P
