Alchemical enchancements for objects.
« on: April 22, 2009, 04:40:30 pm »

I think that the most useful and logical application a dwarf would have for alchemy would be in enhancing their creations.  By using the correct materials (such as liquid fire from a fire-snake, plus powdered gypsum or whatever), an alchemist could fireproof an object to increase its resistance to heat; similar things with different ingredients could be used to increase hardness, or decrease weight, or add resistance to acid and other environmental effects.

Just a thought, at least.  Perhaps an alchemist in a strange mood could even grab a random high-quality (but non-artifact) object and convert it into an artifact through some alchemical process, adding such strange features to it directly.

I like the idea of (mad) alchemists grabbing objects (critters, too?) and transforming them into who knows what flavor of weirdness.

I wouldn't say artifacts, though. Enhancement could be ok, to a point, however.

Brewing mystery potions would also be fun, especially if the (mad) alchemist is in a fey mood. Shouldn't be too hard to dupe a likely dwarf into drinking one, either.
