Wouldn't this require a heat tag be placed on every creature and tile?

There already is, look at the RAWs, especially things like FIXED_TEMP, and the melting points.  The game is already tracking an amazing amount of temperature information (unless it's disabled in the init), this suggestion is just asking for a more detailed way to view this.
