Butchering a hydra corpse

I was awed at my dwarves' martial ability.  They took on the hydra that charged into my base using only melee combat!

But when I butchered it, I got only 1 skull.  This is a 7-headed beast, so why not 7 skulls?  :)

There were lots of problems with hydras...  I think they also all had only one set of eyes/brains/other facial features until I fixed that in the in-dev version, so your hydras are like...  dragons with 6 knobby-ended worms sticking out of them.  Kind of like tentacle demon dragons, really.

edit:  oh, but the knobby ends can all bite in yours, so it's like...  more advanced tentacle demons where they have lil mouths.

It was impossible to defeat it. It bind all my limbs, in a way I only could bite it. Then it torn apart the limbs one by one, then the head. Like a horror movie!  :D

I've seen a man kill a hydra in a single hit, actually.

I imagine putting a spear through the heart, and maybe a lung or two, and then backing off and letting it bleed out would work...

Does killing one of its heads still kill the hydra?  I think I remember someone saying something of the sort some time back.

Two dwarves (farmer & peasant) got killed as they ran back to the fortress.  None of my actual fighters died, though one brave axedwarf lost his entire right leg, so he's pretty much a goner.
