Weight system

A idea i had for Dwarf fortress was that weight be the factor for basic items like wood, stone

like so any item you make has weight,
that weight would then be taken from a basic item like ore/sand etc

a waste factor would be put in too such as a small object like an earring uses 3 pounds or such of stone, bone, iron.

more expireienced crafters in this case would waste less of the base item.

the items that cant be used anymore
(the valuable ones such as ore) could be melted or combined somewhere.

concrete: stone that can be used anymore couldbe ground up with sand as concrete along with other waste items to make fortifications and many other thing concrete could be used for.

Stone properties: would be nice if this was added as well to deepen the idea further

feel free to leave comments or revisions and uses for the idea.

Currently, there's plans to split resources up into stacks of smaller items. The only problem I can see with using weight instead is that you'd end up with lots of mostly-depeleated resources lying around that can't be combined into a stack. Someone would have to haul those either to a refuse pile or to have them reprocessed, and that would increase the already massive number of hauling jobs.

I do, however, definitely like the idea of being able to make building materials like concrete. Mud could be processed into brick or adobe, and sand + lime (a limestone or chalk derivative) could be combined to make stucco, which could be used to create higher-quality engravings. Plaster, a gypsum derivative, could be used as well. Gravel could be created as an additive for concrete to make it more resistant, or to create a makeshift road (only slightly better than dirt).

Slightly off topic but an elephant in a cage weighs at least 10 times less than it should
