Excellent AM2+ heatsink?
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:56:16 am »

I'm wondering if anyone knows of an excellent AM2+ heatsink? My motherboard is an AM2/AM2+/AM3 socket system, and i've got a Phenom II X3 720 that runs a bit hot (102F idle, 138F maxed).

I need a huge improvement on the stock heatsink, preferably for $60 or less. Suggestions?

I have Arctic Silver 5 that I plan to use for paste.

Two words my friend: Liquid Cooling.

You can find some nice rigs at Fry's or Best Buy, but they certianly don't come cheap.

Nice.  That's neither $50 or less, nor even remotely a possible consideration.

Seriously, can it possibly be this hard to have someone give heatsink advice that ISN'T stock!?  It can't be true that AMD makes the best heatsinks..

JUST SO YOU DON'T COMPLETELY FARK IT UP

That isn't water, in the aquarium, it's non-conductive Glycerine.

That looks so cool man.

I got a can of compressed air for my computer today and was spraying it.  I forgot not to tilt it...

Thankfully only my dial-up card was hit by the blast of abyssally cold liquid, and my computer survived.

Actually, I dun think that can hurt it.

I've used it as a test tool before.  I'd have friends cake a heatsink in dry ice from a spraycan to chill the CPU to -20C and overclock the crap out of it.

Let me tell you, videocards that have no fans REALLY overclock when they're frozen!  =D

Hmm, putting a computer in a Liquid Nitrogen cooler thingy in the attempt to cause it to super conduct.
