Brook with 35 z-level waterfall
« on: April 16, 2009, 11:58:12 pm »

I was messing around with an autohotkey script for finding 'rare' embarks (4x4 with Flux, River, Magma Pipe, Chasm, and HFS) and one of the results was an embark location with a brook that has this huge 35 z-level waterfall in it. So here is the seed if anyone else wants to try building their dining room around it.  :)

On a side note: this is the first time I've seen a waterfall with more than a few z-levels, is this common?

Not only were waterfalls that high never common, but now waterfalls of over 2 z-levels or even cliffs that high are rare right now.

Downloaded 3D-Dwarf, pretty sure I used it right... Anyhow, heres the image. Couldn't get a great view of the region without cutting off parts of the waterfall :(. Had to zoom out to 11 just so it would show up completely.

Have you tried lifevis for DF? IT might have a better ability to capture it.

No, I think the cook would be in charge of sugar-coating the cows.

You are a lifesaver! Round and probably in tropical flavors.

This is what lifevis gives me.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It doesn't seem to load certain areas of the map (particularly around the magma pipe/chasm)...

Question is, how is the framerate at this site?

I wonder if I could build colored windows in the waterfall...

Drop goblins in upstream, and see if they drown before they get swept over.

Can they get swept over?

Can they get swept over?

They should be if they're close enough .. if they're dropped upstream however they might not.
This must be examined.

I'll let you guys know how my fps is once I get near my pop cap and a siege happens (at my cap on embark). I don't think the waterfall will cause a noticeable hit to your fps though unless you accidentally cause flooding while trying to incorporate it into your fortress.  ;D

The magma pipe is pretty cool too, it ends at 162 but the pipe/bottomless pit shape continues all the way up to 174. I'm planning on having a collapsible floor as the entrance to my fort at ~170 over the pipe, so they'll be free falling for 8 z-levels before hitting the magma. I've been looking over what ores are visible just from the cliffs as well, I don't think I'll have any problems meeting mandates for specific metal items or getting iron. Without digging at all I can see these ores in two of the biomes (don't know whats in the third[makes up southern area]).

Only downside I can see for the embark is that unless you clear all the ramps in the NE biome or expand the embark one to the right you might be short on wood.

EDIT: Forgot to list Hematite.
EDIT2: Eh, saw another ore poking out of the side of the hill.
