Looking for a starting spot
« on: April 11, 2009, 06:10:21 pm »

I was thinking of a fun challenging starting spot and was wondering if anybody has had the fortune of finding a glacier with a magma pipe and hidden fun stuff
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
If anybody has seen such a spot, sending me in the right direction would be appreciated!

Unfortunately, HFS can only be found in mountains (In case you didn't know), and I have never seen a mountain/glacier spot. Perhaps someone else might have?

I've seen glaciers NEAR mountains so mabe you'll find the High Fun Stone.
(That is what "HFS" stands for right?)

HFS stands for "Happy Fun Stuff" and refers to whatever secret content Toady has inserted into the game. For some reason many of the players have seized on the term to refer to adamant, when a) it's meant to be more general, and b) in the context of adamant it originally referred to the chambers you get alongside the adamant.

Given that nobles can demand adamant goods, its existence is hardly a secret.

Hidden Fun Stuff.

Owing to the fact that it's usually of the "hidden" variety, as it's usually deep underground and doesn't show up on the overmap(unless you've got the prospector enabled), and Fun as in Boatmurder.

And it's stuff.

Yes, actually, I am trying to get myself banned.  I wish Toady would quit working on this worthless piece of junk and go back to teaching math.

Have you tried designing a world with lower temperatures and higher volcanism?

The other way is to edit the init ( Showduringembark ) .

I've never really tried tweaking with world gen, any suggestions on how to make a map with large amounts of glaciers and volcanoes?

There's a straightforward setting for volcanism.

For glaciers, you just want to limit the available temperatures to low ones. Just don't set it too low or none of the civilizations will survive.
