New Beast Suggestions

Monus decided that the inclusion of the common estuary thriving Archer Fish (Toxotes) Is necessary to a future fortress mode. For those non-naturalists, Archer Fish are well known for their prey-capture in which they shoot jets of water at bugs in the over-hanging foliage. Taking this to the Dwarven extreme Monus can forsee Giant Archer Fish (Toxotes gigantus) as a force to be reckoned with. Perhaps the water blast shooting from these fish can reach multiple Z-levels and knock unassuming dwarves into the lake. Better yet, a dungeon master could catch one in a drag net and train the fish to take out Goblins and Elves. Yes the Elves! This would be especially entertaining for the dwarves to watch through the safety of a glass moat, while they cheer on their new biological ballista. Think Seaworld and replace the "gay sharks" with the awesome Giant Water Propelling Fish knocking elderly people down the amphitheater.

Please offer more suggestions: Monus is an experienced naturalist, but has not traveled all the worlds...

Giant Chameleon with super-camouflage and a long tongue capable of attacking from long range would be cool. Perhaps it could completely swallow the enemy and then throwing it away or something. Swordsdwarves could try cutting the tongue off, good idea Y/N? IMO it would do good as a mega or semi-mega beast.

Lungfish, a giant amphibious carp!!!

Koala, it sits in a tree and never moves...(to be fair, koalas do actually move, but reality is less fun)

Platypus, it causes strange moods in dwarves who try to understand its alien geometries...

Echidna, vermin, eating them causes fatal injuries.

Lyrebird, causes a bunch of fake elf entries in the unit list.

Bower bird, steals things based on colour.

Bilby, vermin, tastes like chocolate...

Tasmanian devil, harmless unless provoked, eats bones, eats skulls, eats skin, eats leather, eats chunks, eats soap... ... ...

Rabbit, breeds like cats...

Giant dwarf-eating plant, giant, eats dwarves, immobile...

Moray eel, like carp, but bigger.

Kangaroo, large, agressive, can decapitate a stout dwarf with a single kick.

Hopping nuke, it hops, and starts fires.

Scarab, performs cleaning tasks.

Wallaby, like a kangaroo, except harmless.

Paddy melon, like a wallaby, except harmless.

Drop bear, like a koala, drops out of trees, composed of super-dense materials.

Possum, like a paddy melon, except tears dwrves limb-from-limb, and steals stuff.

Sugar glider, invisible, flies, steals, unbearably cute.

Cassowary, big, mean, bird, mean, can slice a dwarf in twain lengthways...

Earth, mostly harmless.

Crown of thorns, aquatic vermin, kills aquatic animals.

Penguin, vermin, tasty, has no value whatsoever, widely regarded to be rude and offensive.*ducks*

Wombat, small, tough, usually harmless.

Godzilla.

Gamera.

King Kong.

Vote (1) for the Urist scale!
I shall be eternally happy. I shall be able to construct elf hunting giant mecha. Which can pour magma.
Urist has been forced to use a friend as fertilizer lately.

I agree with everything said by Barbarossa.

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)
